CELPIP Speaking Task 6: Dealing with a Difficult Situation
In
Task 6 of the CELPIP Speaking Test, you will be given two options to deal with
a given difficult situation. Your task is to choose an option and to justify it
by adding present situations related to your answer. You have 60 seconds to
pick an option and organize your ideas, and another 60 seconds to record your
response. This speaking task assesses your decision-making skill and your
ability to defend your choice in a given situation.
Most
test takers find the Speaking Task 6 as the most challenging part of the CELPIP
Speaking Test. As a student enrolled in a CELPIP review center, it is important to look for different test-taking tips and

Analyze the situation
Since you have
60 seconds of preparation time, use it to analyze the difficult situation. List
down all the critical points and supporting details from the situation. Doing
this will help you understand the main idea of the difficult situation.
§
Compare the two options
Read each option
and determine their main idea. Write all the possible explanations and arguments
that can be considered for each option. Compare all the information that you
have written and ask yourself: “Which option will be the easiest to talk
about?” Keep in mind that there is no right or wrong answer, but you must pick
an option that you can easily justify.
§
Construct your response
Maximize your
preparation time by constructing your response. Write at least three strong
points to support your choice. Doing this enables you to follow a certain
structure when recording your response. During your CELPIP preparation exam, look for various note-taking strategies that can help
you construct a clear and concise draft.
§
Speak clearly
During the
recording time, speak in a friendly rational tone and express your answers
clearly. Keep in mind the following reminders when recording your responses:

Begin
your response by greeting the person you are talking to, introducing yourself
and stating your desired option.

Present
the three strong points you have written.
·
If
you still have time, add present situations related to your response
·
Don’t
forget to thank the person you are talking to at the end of the recording.
