Preparing for
CELPIP, a high-stakes English proficiency examination, can be a nerve-wracking
experience. Here’s why.
·
The
CELPIP test fee is not cheap. As of December 2018, its cost varies between CAD
215 (PHP 8,495.89) and CAD 280 (PHP 11,064.41) depending on the test dates.
Even if you have money to burn, it’s still a significant sum.
·
Training
with a first-rate CELPIP preparation program,
like the one offered by JRooz Review, will definitely boost your chances of
success. However, it’s an expensive, albeit worthwhile, investment.
·
If
you’re taking the test to accomplish an immigration requirement that has a set
deadline, you need to make sure you secure your score objectives on your first
try. This will certainly raise the pressure during your review.
So, maximize
your training period. If your test date is just around the corner and you still
have a lot of things to learn and skills to develop, don’t panic. You still
have a chance to achieve your grade goals. You just have to study smart. Here
are some tips to help you accomplish a lot in the shortest time possible.
1.
Tailor your training efforts to your learning style.
There
are four types of learning styles. Figure out which one you identify with the
most and use study methods that cater to it. Consider the following.
If
you’re a spatial/visual learner:
o
Come
up with visual interpretations of your CELPIP lessons.
o
Integrate
images and graphic organizers (e.g., charts, graphs, diagrams, etc.) into your
review efforts.
If
you’re an aural/auditory learner:
o
Read
your CELPIP lessons out loud.
o
Find
audio versions of your CELPIP review center
materials.
If
you’re a kinesthetic learner:
o
Teach
someone the CELPIP essentials.
o
Answer
CELPIP mock tests.
If
you’re a read/write learner:
o
Rewrite
your lecture notes after your training sessions.
o
Reread
your CELPIP notes and handouts.
2.
Commit to a study timetable.
Spend
at least two consecutive hours every day on CELPIP training. It’ll help you
pace your review efforts, retain your lessons better, and stave off burnouts.
3.
Practice what you learned whenever possible.
Don’t
confine your CELPIP preparation efforts to your
classes and study sessions.
Apply
what you learned and hone your communicative skills whenever possible. Talk to
your peers in English, keep a journal, or peruse various reading materials. You
can also listen to podcasts while you do your chores or run errands.
Elevate your CELPIP preparation. Integrate these tips into your
study efforts to accomplish and retain a lot in the shortest time possible!
