Dos and Don'ts to Ace the CELPIP Listening Exam

Simply honing your listening skills is not enough to guarantee a high score in the first CELPIP sub-test. You need to know the listening exam inside out. Learn what its various task types involve and prepare a strategy for each one.

The best way to get to know the test is by enrolling in the best CELPIP review center in the Philippines. Not only will you get access to quality training materials, but you’ll also learn from CELPIP experts. But, don’t rely solely on your CELPIP course. Complement your review sessions with these dos and don’ts and you’ll be well on your way to exceeding your desired listening grade.

      ·        DO treat your practice exams as if they’re the actual test.
This is something that many CELPIP preparation exam students commit. Knowing that what they’re taking is just for practice, they allow themselves to be complacent when they answer mock tests. And this, ironically, makes them more ill-prepared for the exam. Don’t make the same mistake.

      ·        DO sharpen your listening skills.
In the CELPIP exam, you can only listen to the audio recordings once. So, you must pay close attention. Make sure that you can follow English discussions and conversations well before you take the test. Practice your listening skills during your review period. Listen to English news broadcasts and podcasts. Watch English movies and programs without looking at your TV or computer screen.

      ·        DO take down notes.
As mentioned before, there is no playback option in the CELPIP listening exam.
You can only listen to the recordings once. So, jot down notes. Write down all of the audio’s key points. Use symbols and abbreviations to save time. Work on your writing speed alongside your classes at the CELPIP review center in the Philippines.

      ·        DON’T panic.
If you’re preparing with a CELPIP review center in thePhilippines, this is one of the lessons that the instructor will drill into your head. Did the speaker use an unfamiliar word or expression? Don’t panic. Focus on listening to the recording.
Otherwise, you’ll lose track of the audio. Remember, you don’t need to understand each and every word of the recording to complete the listening tasks.

        ·         DON’T leave a question unanswered.
You won’t lose a point for incorrect responses in the listening exam. You just won’t get a mark. So, better to guess the answer than to leave an item blank. Increase your chances of getting the right answer in the multiple-choice sections of the test by using the process of elimination.
