      1.    Read the question carefully. Highlight all the important details and keywords of the question, so that you can get the overall idea of the situation.

      2.    While preparing your answer, list down all the essential ideas and information that you want to include in your advice. During your CELPIP preparation program review sessions, look for various note-taking strategies that you can use during the speaking test

      3.    Start your advice with these following phrases: “I know”, “Since you have been”, or “I heard that.” You can seek for more helpful introductory phrases in your CELPIP preparation program.

      4.    Share your personal experiences that are related to the situation. You can use the following phrases to tell your story: “I remember when I was”, “As you know”, or “In my personal experience.”

      5.    Consider concluding your advice by congratulating or encouraging statements including “Congratulations!”, “Good luck!”, “I hope that”, “I believe that”, or “The best thing that you can do.”

      6.    While speaking, look directly at the person (CELPIP test rater) you are advising. Although your speech is only recorded during the test, your communication will be more resounding if you have eye contact with your CELPIP test rater.

      7.    Manage your time wisely. Since you only have 30 seconds of preparation time, maximize your time constructing the content of your advice.
